Los términos Arqueología misteriosa o Criptoarqueología (del griego Kryptos = oculto), incluye todas las teorías sobre la civilización del pasado y los descubrimientos relacionados con las mismas, que no encajan en las teorías arqueológicas convencionales.
Arqueológicas convencionales, porque se refiere a una visión estricta de los historiadores y arqueólogos, basado en un modelo lineal de la evolución de la civilización humana. Que no es capaz de explicar muchos hallazgos, que ni siquiera deberían existir, en las edades en que se trazaban. Explicar objetos o situaciones fuera de lugar. Y sin duda, no tiene en cuenta la evidencia de civilizaciones perdidas, que se obtuvieron durante estados alterados de conciencia, o estados de clarividencia. Tampoco obtenidos por psicometría, o lectura extrasensorial histórica de un objeto con solo tocarlo, o recuerdos de reencarnaciones espontáneas o inducidas.
La ciencia convencional se mantiene en una posición de negación y para ser honesto, en este campo de estudio es difícil establecer con certeza dónde está la verdad y dónde lo falso. Tal vez la única certeza es que la historia humana es mucho más compleja y extraordinaria, que lo que se representa en los libros de historia. Cuándo y cómo se da a conocer con exactitud.
